Suzuki Football Heroes Face Off in Bacolod

The Philippine National Men’s Football Team Azkals and the Ceres Negros Team, local football heroes who won the Philippine Football Federation (PFF)-Suzuki U23 National Cup will display their prowess as they engage in a series of friendly matches.

Known as a football country, Bacolod will once again host an exciting fight between two of the most talented football groups in the Philippines. The PFF- Suzuki Exhibition game is slated on 13 September, 6pm at the Panaad Park and Stadium in Barangay Mansilingan, Bacolod City.

Both discovered in Suzuki led events, the two teams ignited the national awareness of Filipinos in football making it the hottest sport in the country today. That said, Suzuki Philippines expressed their continuous support for budding gifted players in the country. SPH believes that the wealth of talented athletes in the country needs only to be tapped and honed for them to reach their full potential.

Team Azkals reaped media attention with their impressive semi-final finish in last year’s Asean Football Federation (AFF) Suzuki Cup finally giving the country a share in the limelight in the international football stage.

Acknowledging the rise of the sport, in the middle of 2011 Suzuki supported local players through the “Hometown Heroes,” highlighting the roots of recognized and rising local talents such as Chieffy Caligdong, Roel Gener, Ian Araneta, Yanick Tuazon, and Paolo Pascual who came from Visayas and Mindanao. Apart from playing football, the five hometown heroes also share a passion in motorcycle riding especially Ian Araneta who is also a drag racing enthusiast.

On the other hand, the Ceres Negros Team emerged victorious among eight teams from Luzon, Visayas, Mindanao and the National Capital Region who vied for the PFF-Suzuki U23 National Cup – a further proof that football gems are just hiding in the corners of the Philippines.

Suzuki Philippines partnered with PFF to spearhead the PFF Suzuki U23 National Cup as a local adaptation of the AFF Suzuki Cup, a football competition organized by the ASEAN Football Federation featuring national teams from different ASEAN countries. Winners of the PFF Suzuki U23 cup will be the possible pool of the next Azkals to represent the country in international competitions.

Filipino athletes showcase strength and reliability just like the motorcycle and automobile products of Suzuki. With this in mind, Suzuki vows to support the development of local sports particularly football and motorsports racing.
